3 Key Google Ads Updates You Must Know In 2023
How Often Do You Think Google Adwords Introduces A New Update?
Google Adwords, or more commonly referred to as Google Ads, is ever-changing. With new updates introduced almost each month. As the leading Google Ads Agency in Malaysia, Onroas Digital Marketing Agency dives deep into the 3 core updates that will definitely impact small advertisers in 2023.
For viewers that are still unfamiliar with Google Ads, please read this article which goes in depth into explaining what is Google Ads and how you should use Google Ads
#1 The end of similar audiences in Google Ads
To existing advertisers familiar with Google Ads, one of the techniques commonly used was similar audience targeting, which operates similarly to Meta’s Lookalike audience targeting. As of May 2023, Google has commenced the sunset of the similar audience targeting in Google Adwords (Google Ads), this means that advertisers will be unable to target their ads to people who are similar to their existing website visitors or customers.
This change was brought up to give advertisers more control over their targeting and to make sure that the ads are shown to the right people as it was found that similar audience targeting was not really a precise targeting option and could at times, lead to your ads being shown to people who are actually not interested in your products or services.
What does this change imply to our Digital Marketing Agency ?
- Advertisers such as our Google Ads Agency have been exploring new ways to perform ads targeting optimization such as keywords targeting, audience targeting, demographic targeting or even location targeting.
- As a Google Ads Agency, or a SEM Agency, to avoid a decrease in client’s ads performance amid the removal of similar audiences, Onroas Digital Marketing Agency has took on the steps to adjust our targeting and bidding strategies.
#2 The release of the new ads transparency policy
Google has introduced a new Google Ads Transparency Policy in July 2023 to combat fraud and abuse in the Google advertising ecosystem. It also is targeted to provide users with more control over the ads that they see.
The new Google Ads Transparency Policy will require advertisers to disclose certain information about their ads such as the purpose behind the ads, their targeting criteria and their budget. Advertisers on Google Adwords that do not comply with this new policy will have their ads disapproved or even receiving a suspension on their accounts
What does this change imply to our Digital Marketing Agency ?
- While this change does not impact Onroas Digital too much, our recent clients have mostly found difficulty in complying and verifying their profiles which lead to disapproved ads. We have helped several clients made changes to their ad campaigns to comply with these policies.
- It is crucial that advertisers on Google must stay up to date regarding the latest updates to Google Ads as advertisers that do not comply with this policy will have their ads disapproved as well as risk account suspension.
#3 New Ad Assets Only For Verified Advertisers
With Google’s push for more advertising transparency, they are also trying to push for advertisers to verify themselves. One of the actions Google has launched would be the introduction of new ad assets Only for verified advertisers. These includes business name, logo, and voiceovers for video ads which our digital marketing agency believes to be strongly beneficial for your business to create more engaging and effective ads.
Google’s intension behind this change is to give advertisers more ways to customize their ads to make them stand out from their competitions while also pushing for more advertisers to verify themselves. These new ad assets are also expected to be an important tool for businesses to build trust and credibility with their potential customers.
